Coach Comments: We struggled at the plate today. We didn’t make the in game adjustments we needed to gets hits. We made a few mistakes each game and they took advantage of it. Marissa threw very well in game one but we couldn’t give her any run support. We will look to bounce back on track this Tuesday when we travel to Lamar, Colorado for a doubleheader. We also play in North Platte on Wednesday to make up the game lost on February 15. We are currently 6-7 and 0-2 in the conference. Our next home action is Sunday March 29 with Western Nebraska. Start time is 12:00pm at Carl Adams Softball Field.

Coach Comments: We hit the ball and scored runs. When we did hit the ball it was right at people. We came out flat. We need to do a better job with our team intensity. We can’t come out flat and expect to win against good teams. We have a little break before we start conference play next Sunday in El Dorado. I hope this break will help refuel us going into conference play. We are currently 6-5 on the season

Marissa Elsberry 2-3 2R
Team Hits – 9

Coach Comments: We played better on Saturday than we have in the other outings. Marissa threw very well against Western. We weren’t able to key hits to drive in runs during that game. Our defense played the best we have all year. The team didn’t let the cool weather affect them. We showed signs of learning from the mistakes we made earlier in the week. We have our first conference games this week. We play at Garden City on Wednesday and Barton comes to town on Thursday. We are currently 3-3 on the year.

Softball drops doubleheader to Lamar

Lady Trojans Drop Two to Lamar
Tuesday, March 3

Game #1 Colby 0 Lamar 3

Losing Pitcher – Marissa Elsberry 4H 3R 2ER 6BB 3K 7IP

Leading Hitter – Kali Brester 2-4

Team Hits – 6

Game #2 Colby 4 Lamar 8

Losing Pitcher – Logan Wark 14H 8R 4ER 0BB 2K 7IP

Leading Hitter – Jaylen Reed 2-3 1R

Team Hits – 9

Coach Comments: We didn’t play with much fire today. We struggled at the plate most of the day. We have struggled in the early part of our first four games hitting the ball. I thought our pitchers threw well for early in the year. We have to give run support for them to be successful. We fought back in game two after being down 6-0 we had the tying runs on base, but couldn’t get them across the plate. We have to make the average plays on defense and hit the ball with runners in scoring position. We have a big test this weekend in the Cloud County tournament. We play three games Saturday and two on Sunday. Three of the five teams we play made it to the National tournament last year. It is a good early season test for our team. We are currently 2-2.

Leading Hitter – Charliey Staab 2-3 1R 1RBI
Team Hits – 9

Coach Comments: Overall it wasn’t a bad start for us. The team never gave up when we were down. We found a way to win both games. We had some people step up when we needed it and drive in runs. We have practiced since the start of school and haven’t had a game yet. I think we were a little nervous with this being our first outing of the year. Our defense played well. Our pitchers stepped up when we needed it. We need to cut down on the number of walks. The biggest thing we need to improve on is our intensity. We went flat in both games during the middle. This is the first time in a long time we have started out 2-0. I hope this can give us a boost going into the games against Lamar tomorrow. Start time is 1pm at Carl Adams Softball field on the CCC campus.
