Trojan baseball splits series with Garden City

Monday, April 21

Despite splitting a four-game set with Garden City this weekend, the Colby Community College baseball team (24-22, 14-14) holds its own destiny on whether it will host a first-round series in the region tournament. CCC maintained its two-game edge over Garden City and Dodge City in the conference standings, with just one four-game conference series left. The Trojans play Hutchinson at home on April 26-27. Meanwhile, Garden City will play last place Cloud County and Dodge City will travel to Butler.

The Trojans are currently in fourth place at 14-14, behind Seward (22-6), Hutchinson (21-7) and Barton County (19-13). They are ahead of Garden City (12-16), Dodge City (12-16), Butler (11-17), Pratt (9-19) and Cloud County (8-20). The Trojans could lock up a home series if they win three-out-of-four against Hutch, which would be a tall task.

The Trojans lost game three 5-3. Chris Urbach allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings and picked up the loss. Josh Edwards pitched well in relief, allowing just one hit in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
