The Colby Community College volleyball team won their second match in three days, defeating Otero Junior College in LaJunta, Colo. The Lady Trojans defeated Otero by scores of 30-28, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18. Head Coach Valerie Armstrong said the team experienced some adversity, but responded well in the victory.
“The girls started slow in the first set, but came back and didn’t give up,” Armstrong said. “In the second set, (Megan) Dennis injured her back, so there was some confusion. But, the team re-grouped and Jessica Merino came off the bench and played hard for us.”

The Lady Trojans now stand at 13-27 overall for the season. CCC travels to Great Bend, Kan., for a Jayhawk West matchup with Barton County on Wednesday. The Lady Trojans defeated Barton earlier this season in Colby.

Women's golf 4th at OPSU Invite

The Colby Community College women’s golf team competed at the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Fall Invitational on Oct. 6-7. The team for CCC consisted of Abby Laverenz, Eva DeLuca, Alexandra Owens, Kali Brester and Megan Ryan.
Laverenz, a sophomore from Burlington, Colo., finished with a two day total of 179 which tied her for fourth place. Laverenz shot a 89 on day one and a 90 on day two. DeLuca finished tied for 14th place with a two day total of 198.
After struggling on day one with a 106, DeLuca rebounded for an 18-hole score of 92 on day two. Owens shot 116 and 125 for a total of 241 and Kali Brester shot a 133 and 125 for a total of 258. Megan Ryan withdrew from competition after day one.
The Lady Trojans finished in fourth place behind Northwestern Oklahoma State, OPSU and Dodge City.
