Aug. 28, 2008

The Colby Community College volleyball team lost a tough five-set match Wednesday at Garden City Community College. The game scores were 23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 6-15.

“It was a disappointing loss,” Head Coach Valerie Armstrong said. “The match was tough, but we just checked out mentally when we needed to be more focused.”

Juliana Motta Da Silva led the Lady Trojans with 13 kills, followed closely by Rexanne Schilowsky with 11. Lisa Faimon added 8 kills and Jessica Merino added 6 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Pricila Sena had 35 assists in the loss.

“Rex stepped up and hit well and Jessi Schmidt came off the bench and played a big role for us,” Armstrong said. “We just have to work on fixing the little things that hurt us.”

The Lady Trojans travel to Hutchinson on Wednesday, Sept. 3 for their next match and host the Colby Classic Tournament on Sept. 5-6.
