CCC drops conference match at Hutchinson
Wednesday, Sept. 3
The Colby Community College Lady Trojan volleyball team (2-7, 0-2) lost Wednesday at Hutchinson Community College. The match scores were 15-25, 15-25, 12-25. Head Coach Valerie Armstrong said the scores were deceiving, and that her team showed improvement.
“The score doesn’t reflect how we played defensively,” Armstrong said. “I was very pleased with our defensive play tonight. We just didn’t hit the ball well, and we might have to change some things (to improve on that).”
Armstrong also said the teams blocking was effective against Hutchinson.
“We only had a couple of blocks, but we got a lot of touches,” Armstrong said. “I thought we disrupted them some, but just couldn’t finish on the offensive end.”
Sophomore libero Megan Dennis (Oakley) led the defensive effort with 18 digs and Rexanne Schilowsky had 7 kills, including five in the first match. The Lady Trojans host the Colby Classic Tournament this weekend, which features 10 teams from Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming.
The Lady Trojans play at 8 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on Friday morning and play at 12:30 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
“Our players are excited about this weekend,” Armstrong said. “We saw some of our capabilities (against Hutch) and hopefully we’ll continue to take steps in the right direction.”
