The Colby Community College Lady Trojan volleyball team defeated Barton County three games to one last night at the Community Building. The win moved the Lady Trojans overall record to 7-9, gave them their first conference win and moved their home record to 6-2 on the season. Head Coach Valerie Armstrong was pleased with her team’s effort after a slow start.
“The first game we came out slow and tight,” Armstrong said. “Once we passed and ran our faster tempo, things came together and we played well.”
Juliana Motta Da Silva led the team with 20 kills and Rexanne Schilowsky added 13 kills and a team-leading six blocks.
“Rex owned the net blocking and everyone played hard,” Armstrong said. “We are a good team when everyone does their part.
Wednesday night’s contest saw the return of sophomore libero Megan Dennis. Cassie Smatana occupied the role of libero during her absence, but returned to an outside hitter role.
“Cassie stepped up by playing defense and hitting well,” Armstrong said. “It was nice to get our first conference win.”
