The Colby Community College softball team competed at a tournament this past weekend hosted by Cloud Community College. The squad features just three sophomores, just two returning players from last season, and 17 freshmen. The two returning players are sophomore shortstop Katherine Nickel (Hastings, Neb.) and sophomore outfielder Erin Myers (Larned, Kan.).
The scores from the tournament are listed below.
Colby 0 Bethany 3
The Lady Trojans managed just three hits in seven innings, one hit each by Tiffany Allen, Marissa Elsberry and Peggy Nichols. Elsberry was solid on the mound, striking out 12 batters in seven innings and allowing three runs, two earned.
Colby 5 Barton 6
Colby had a 5-1 lead after the top of the fifth inning, but Barton scored two in the bottom of the fifth and added three more in the sixth to steal the victory. Whitney Archer was 2-for-3 with a triple and Aubri Townsend was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs batted in. The Lady Trojans committed three errors which led to four unearned runs. Jessica Chelewski pitched six innings and allowed 6 runs (2 earned) and 8 hits.
Colby 19 Brown Mackie 4
The Lady Trojans scored five runs in the first inning and exploded for 11 more in the second. The coasted to a 19-4 victory. Janay Rahrich was 3-for-3 with two doubles and 4 RBI. Brittany Berndt was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Overall, CCC had 18 hits and walked 6 times. Jaylen Reed started for the Trojans, allowing just one earned run (4 total) in five innings and struck out five.
Colby 1 Salt City Crush 7
Aubri Townsend was 3-for-3 and had the Trojans lone RBI in the first inning. The Lady Trojans did have two hits and earned 2 walks, but were unable to push any runs across. Trojan starter Logan Wark allowed five earned runs (7 total) in six innings, walking none and striking out 3.
