The Colby Community College volleyball team (8-12 overall) went 1-3 over the weekend at the Northeastern Junior College Tournament in Sterling, Colo. According to Head Coach Valerie Armstrong, the team spent a portion of the weekend trying to overcome injuries to two key components.
“In the first game with Lamar, Priscila rolled her ankle,” Armstrong said. Armstrong was referring to sophomore transfer setter Priscila Sena, the only setter listed on the squad. The Lady Trojans were forced to move freshman outside hitter Juliana Motta Da Silva to setter for the remaining games. Armstrong said Silva also suffered a slight knee injury, but was still able to handle the setting duties for the time being.
Armstrong said Sena’s availability was questionable for tonight’s game with Seward, and realistically she hoped Sena would be available for the Wyo-Braska Tournament on Sept. 18-20.
At the NJC Tournament, the Lady Trojans began with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 victory over McCook. Their second match was against the #2-ranked team in the NJCAA in Western Nebraska. WNCC handed the Lady Trojans a 25-20, 25-14, 25-10 defeat. CCC lost their remaining two matches to Lamar (25-22, 16-25, 19-25, 25-16, 8-15) and Air Force Prep (25-12, 21-25, 23-25, 23-25).
