Lady Trojans vs. Hutch game notes

Lady Trojans vs. Hutch
First Half

The first half was back-and-forth early, with Jamie Alexander hitting two three-pointers early to give the Lady Trojans a 6-4 lead. The Trojans led 9-8 after a Jackie Marshall three-pointer, but Hutch responded with a 7-0 run to take a 15-9 lead.

Hutch picked up the tempo – running in transition – but the Lady Trojans stayed close, trailing 22-24 with six minutes remaining in the half. Hutch went on an 11-0 run over the next five minutes, a run ended by two Ashley Ming free-throws. Danisha Cole, silent offensively through most of the first half, got a lay-up of her own steal to bring the Trojans back to within 10 points (28-38) at halftime.

Second half

Back and forth through the first 10-12 minutes of the second half, Colby still trailed by 10 with eight minutes remaining. The Lady Trojans never able to make a serious run at Hutch, as the Lady Blue Dragons were able to limit CCC’s offensive opportunities. The last 8 minutes of the game it was all Hutch, as they outscored Colby 28-7, mainly on free-throws in the final three minutes of the contest.

Tasha Wagoner led the Lady Trojans with 16 points – 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Ashley Ming had 12 points, 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Jamie Alexander had 8 points and a team-leading 8 rebounds.

Out of Colby’s points 51 points, 39 came from the three-point line and free-throw line. The Lady Trojans struggled getting points inside and from the mid-range.
