The Lady Trojan basketball team defeated Garden City 69-53 Sunday at the Community Building. Danisha Cole had a team-leading 24 points and also pulled down 6 rebounds. Jamie Alexander added 13 points, Jaclyn Marshall had 11 points and Tasha Wagoner added 10.
After trailing 4-7 early in the first half, CCC went on a 18-2 run and lead 22-9 with 12 minutes remaining in the opening period. Garden City closed within five points at 28-23, but Wagoner had a lay-up and Alexander hit a three in the final minute of the half to push the lead back to 10.
Colby went on another run to begin the second half, keyed by Cole who scored 20 points in the second half. Cole scored nine points alone in the first three minutes of the second half, and Garden City was never able to get the deficit under 10 points.
The Lady Trojans are now 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the Jayhawk West Conference. The win keeps CCC tied with Barton County for fourth place in the standings.
