A lackluster beginning and end doomed the Trojan men in Sunday’s contest with Jayhawk West foe Garden City. The Trojans lost 67-55, dropping them to 3-16 overall, 1-4 in the conference. Aireus Stephenson led the Trojans with 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field. Shamar Acuay had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Charleston Smith had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
CCC was hampered early by offensive inefficiency – mainly poor ball movement and turnovers. Garden City jumped out to a 21-5 lead over the first 10 minutes of the opening half and led by 18 points with just under six minutes left in the first half. The Trojans closed to within 12 points at halftime as Aireus Stephenson scored seven points in the last two minutes.
CCC took a little momentum into the second half, and came out with much better intensity. The Trojans closed within two points at 47-45 with 10:15 remaining in the game, but Garden City responded with a 13-0 run. Colby wasn’t able to make another serious run and lost by the 12-point margin.
