Trojan baseball sweeps doubleheader from Pratt

The Colby Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Pratt last Saturday in Pratt. The Trojans won 7-4 and 12-10, with both games going into extra innings. The Trojans scored four runs in the ninth inning and held Pratt in the bottom half of the inning for the victory.

Scott Hornstra earned the win in relief in game one, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing 2 unearned runs. Starting pitcher for the Trojans, Sean Lydon allowed just one earned run and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Aaron Dunsmore was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI. Garrett Stone was 3-for-5 with a double and 1 RBI. Every Trojan hitter had a least one hit in the contest and the team combined for 15 hits.

In game two, it took the Trojans 10 innings to defeat Pratt 12-10. The Trojans committed 5 errors which lead to 5 unearned runs. Pratt had just six hits, but the five errors and six walks allowed Pratt to keep the game close. Max Greve picked up the win in relief for the Trojans, allowing just one hit in 3 1/3 innings. Both Eric Sim and Aaron Dunsmore homered for the Trojans.

The Trojan offense produced 18 hits, led by a 3-for-4 performance from Dunsmore. Again each hitter in the line-up had at least one hit. First baseman Steve Kletke was also 3-for-4 and Scott Hornstra, Jerry Hildreth, Eric Sim, and Sean Caggiano each had two hits.

The doubleheader with Pratt scheduled for Sunday was postponed until Tuesday, March 4.
