Lady Trojans travel to Labette for first-round game

Monday, March 3

The Colby Community College Lady Trojan basketball team (11-19, 6-10) will travel to Labette on Wednesday, March 5 for their first-round conference tournament game. CCC is the fifth seed in the West Division and Labette is the fourth seed from the east.

Labette is 24-6 overall on the season and 14-4 in the Jayhawk East Division. Finishing ahead of Labette in the East Division was Coffeyville, Independence and Cowley County. Labette has one of the top players in the conference in 6'1" sophomore Dana Olsen, who is averaging 24 points and 7 rebounds per game. Also averaging in double figures for Labette is Brittany Brown at 14 points per game.

Looking at common opponents, Labette was defeated by Hutchinson (80-64) on Nov. 11, but defeated Hutch at the Jayhawk Shootout 62-36 on Dec. 2. Labette also defeated Garden City 84-62 at the Jayhawk Shootout.

The Lady Trojans enter the tournament on a deceptive five-game losing streak. They played tough defense against some of the top teams in the conference, but haven't been able to get shots to fall on the offensive end. In their final regular season game the Lady Trojans lost to Seward 63-55.

CCC trailed 33-20 at halftime, but an early second-half surge brought them to within four points. On several occasions, the Lady Trojans had the opportunity to narrow the lead, but missed on three-point attempts. Seward made the necessary plays down the stretch to win the game.
