Lady Trojans fall to Barton 54-38

Wednesday, Feb. 27

For the first seven minutes of Wednesday's game against Barton County, the Colby Community College Lady Trojans played tough defense and managed a 10-2 lead. However, Barton County hit back-to-back three-pointers and responded with a pressure defense. Barton took the lead back and lead by a 27-17 at halftime.

The Lady Trojans continued to struggle against Barton, the #7-ranked team in the NJCAA and also the top-ranked defensive team in the conference, in the second half. The Lady Trojans limited Barton, who averages 80 points a game, to 36% shooting for the night and 58 points. But in the end, the Lady Trojans couldn't find enough offense to keep pace.

Katie Spresser led the Lady Trojans with 10 points and also had 5 rebounds. Sandra Sormaz grabbed 7 rebounds, but was constantly double-teamed by Barton and limited to just 8 shot attempts and 5 points. Nikki Welsh added 6 points and 4 rebounds.
